The NCSHPO and the National Park service have developed a cooperative agreement to carry out the Nation's historic preservation program. Cooperative agreement employees work under the daily direction of National Park Service managers on National Park Service activities that involve collarboration between State Historic Preservation Offices and the National Park Service. Founded in 1998, the Association is a national non-profit membership organization of Tribal government officials who implement federal and tribal preservation laws. NATHPO's overarching purpose is to support the preservation, maintenance and revitalization of the cutlure and traditions of Native peoples of the United States.

Federal Agencies and Historic Preservation

With passage of the National Historic Preservation Act in 1966, Congress made the federal government a full partner and a leader in historic preservation. Today, federal agencies that have major stewardship responsibilities for public lands and resources, or have the most frequent, significant effects on historic properties through federal assistance and regulatory programs, have substantial historic preservation responsibilities

The Role of Federal Agencies including information on working with, and streamlining, Section 106, E.O. 11593, Section 110, a list of Federal Preservation Officers, and E.O. 13287 (Preserve America).
