NCSHPO Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation

In an effort to recognize SHPOffices and staff for outstanding programs and service, the NCSHPO introduced the NCSHPO Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation in 2005.

The 2007 awards were presented on February 28, 2007 at the NCSHPO Annual Meeting. And the winners are. . .

  • The Maryland Historical Trust and the Maryland State Highway Administration in the category of Partnerships with a Public Entity which recognizes a partnership between a SHPOffice and a public entity on behalf of a significant historic resource, preservation project, or program.   • The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for their program Educate Yourself about Preservation: Preserving Pennsylvania’s Historic Schools in the category of New Initiatives which recognizes a SHPOffices’ exemplary role in the creation and successful implementation of a new statewide project or program benefiting historic preservation in their state or territory.   • The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division for their program Historic Markers on the Information Superhighway in the category of Heritage Tourism which recognizes a SHPOffices’ contribution to heritage tourism efforts in their state or territory. Click here for a description of the program.
  • The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency for their Upstairs Downtown program in the category of Educational Program or Project which recognizes a SHPOffices’ innovative and exceptional preservation educational program, curricula, publication, website or other informational tool.   • The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division's Tax Credits and Preservation Incentives booklet in the category of Educational Program or Project which recognizes a SHPOffices’ innovative and exceptional preservation educational program, curricula, publication, website or other informational tool.   • The Puerto Rico SHPO'sDe Gira en La Fortaleza, a coloring and activity book in the category of Educational Program or Project which recognizes a SHPOffices’ innovative and exceptional preservation educational program, curricula, publication, website or other informational tool.   • The South Dakota SHPO's Picturing the Past in the category of Educational Program or Project which recognizes a SHPOffices’ innovative and exceptional preservation educational program, curricula, publication, website or other informational tool. Click here for a description of the project.
  • Joan Larrivee, the Delaware Deputy SHPO, in the category of Lifetime Achievement which recognizes a current SHPO, Deputy SHPO, or SHPOffice staff person who has made a significant, long-term (20 years or more) contribution to historic preservation in their state or territory.
